Performance: 8 PRAYERS IN PASSING: ROAD-TRIP MUSINGS

Created for 8X8 Cabaret du Jump, a production of Jump-Start Performance Co. in San Antonio, Texas. Programming featured 8 8-minute performances created by company members and affiliated community artists. Every night the roster of presenting artists was different. This piece, and it's companion, Invoc8tion, was created using images and sounds collected on an 8-hour road trip to and from Llano, Texas.

Performance: INVOC8TION

Also created for Jump-Start's 8X8 Cabaret du Jump, with Erik Bosse, as an opportunity to preview/test the process and modality of INVOCATION, at that time in development and scheduled to open in San Antonio in early November, 2016. We each created 8 short pieces inspired by the same road trip, to and from Llano, Texas, for a total of sixteen text vignettes, each with an associated image and sound. Half of those pieces were randomly selected for performance at the event.

Performance: CRÈME-ATION

Erik Bosse and I were invited to present another preview/test of our INVOCATION process/modality with this piece, specifically created for the W-I-P Crème event, a capstone presentation of the W-I-P (Works-in-Progress/Wednesdays-in-Performance) program, a long-standing collaboration between Jump-Start Performance Co. and the San Antonio Dance Umbrella. Monthly W-I-Ps give three performers/ensembles an opportunity to showcase up to 10 minutes of a work in progress and receive audience feedback via a facilitated process (Liz Lerman's Critical Response Process). Each spring, the curators select stand-out pieces from the previous season's work and invite their creators back to show the completed vision. Although we had not shown any work during the 2015/16 W-I-P season, we have both been supporters and presenters, individually, at W-I-P for years, and were honored to be invited to create a piece for inclusion, as special guest artists, for this year's W-I-P Crème.

For CRÈME-ATION, we collected images from a local residence, and created a subtextual storyline around a fire at that address, and our individual characters' relationships to it. We each wrote six pieces, adding soundscapes informed by the text, to accompany a total of twelve images, and randomly selected five for performance at the event.

Ritual: WE WEAVE THE WORLD: CONSPIRING WITH THE FATES

With my co-conspirators at Expanding Inward, I helped create and facilitate this 4-day intensive in Kansas City. We came together as an experimental intentional community for the weekend to work with the idea of Fate versus free will, and identifying what is our unique work to do in the world.

Installation: HOW WILL YOU BE A LIGHT IN THE WORLD?

This ritual installation was created for Lighten Up! A Celebration of Conscious Art & Community, hosted by Mandala Healing Arts in collaboration with Dreamland Collective at the Woodlawn Casting Pond and Park in San Antonio, Texas.

The ritual area included a cleansing station, an opportunity to contribute to a community-created chalk-board art piece with an answer to the question "How Will You Be a Light in the World?" and a blessing/anointing to seal and celebrate that commitment.

Performance: INVOCATION

The full-length INVOCATION, our "experiment in enhanced storytelling", debuted at URBAN-15 to kick off their 2016/17 Sonic Provocations series. This performance was the culmination of an almost 18-month development process, and the beginning of a new life for the piece and the process through tours, residencies, and site-specific creations/collaborations.
